3-December-1971 During the ensuing melee, three of the Sabres were shot down while all Gnats returning to base were unscathed. The first blood of a new Indo-Pakistan air war had been drawn. Other encounters were to follow over the next 10 days within both Indian and Pakistani airspace, before a full-scale war began.
3-December-1971 Hostilities broke out between India and Pakistan. On the very night that hostilities commenced, with Pakistan bombing several air fields, IN Ships 'Rajput' and 'Akshay' were leaving Vishakapatnam harbour when they obtained a sonar contact. They fired several depth charges and proceeded on their mission when there was no further evidence of a submarine's presence. Thereafter, a loud explosion of rattling windows panes off the Vishakapatnam beach was heard . The Pakistani submarine 'Ghazi' (a Tench class submarine obtained from the USA in 1964) had come to grief.

Gandhi was the member of both committees. He claimed that being the sole representative of the Congress, he represented the whole of India. Quaid-e-Azam replied that Muslims are a separate nation. Sir Shafi demanded that the 14 points of Quaid-e-Azam be incorporated in future constitution.

26-November-1949 India has a parliamentary system of government with certain similarities to the US system. There are two houses - a lower house known as Lok Sabha (House of People) and an upper house known as the Rajya Sabha (Council of States). The Lok Sabha has 544 members (excluding the speaker) and the Rajya Sabha has 245 members. Election for the Lok Sabha is held every five years, unless the government calls an election earlier. All Indians over the age of 18 have the right to vote. The Lok Sabha can be dissolved but the Rajya Sabha cannot. There are also state governments with legislative assemblies known as Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad. The two national houses and the various state houses elect the Indian President, who is a figure head, but the Prime minister wields the real power.

He was the recipient of the 1930 Nobel Prize for Physics for the 1928 discovery now called Raman scattering which is a change in frequency observed when light is scattered in a transparent material. When monochromatic or laser light is passed through a transparent gas, liquid, or solid and is observed with the spectroscope, the normal spectral line is associated with it lines of longer and of shorter wavelength and this is called the Raman spectrum. Thus the Raman effect is applied in spectrographic chemical analysis and in the determination of molecular structure.

The Indian army had also been ordered into nine other cities. Religious warfare between Sikhs and Hindus had claimed at least 1,000 lives since Indira Gandhi was assassinated. The security guards who killed her were both Sikhs. US Secretary of State George Shultz, who attended the funeral, assured the new Prime Minister of US interest in a ""strong and stable India."" US-Indian relations had been strained recently because of United States support for Pakistan. Shultz called for a ""renewed positive trend"" in response.

The other was captured. Sikh extremists had threatened to kill Ms. Gandhi since she ordered the raid on their shrine in Amritsar. She had told an interviewer that she was not intimidated by the threats. 'I am not afraid,' she said. 'I am frequently attacked.'
